Context: Transitioning from an employee to a business owner is a marathon, not a sprint. In this episode of my personal journey, I explain why you should don’t give up your day job yet. I share how I used my 9-5 office role as a training ground to build the skills needed to become a Director.
You are following my journey and I am telling you exactly how it is. This is my personal story which you can use to understand how the business world really works. Quitting your job without a plan is a risk you don’t need to take.
The Training Ground
While you are still employed, work harder than you need to. Use your current role to learn how to streamline workflows and improve things. Always offer solutions instead of just spotting problems. If you can do more than your boss expects, you are building the “CEO muscle” you will need later.
Working Alongside the Dream
The smartest way to start is to work on your business alongside your current role. This takes the financial pressure off and allows you to test your ideas. Use your paycheck to fund your tools and tech while you learn the ropes of self-employment.
Leaving on Good Terms
Deciding when to move on is vital. When the time is right, make sure you leave on good terms. The professional world is smaller than you think, and the relationships you build today can become your first clients or partners tomorrow.
