Portrait Series – Part 1

Portraiting: Ladypool Road Birmingham – September 2011
Freelance Origin Story: 18th Sept 2011

“Portraiting” Ladypool Road

The first part of a series documenting Birmingham’s business men and women faces that represent the heart of our community, yet whose stories often go unrecorded.

This project was my very first step into the world of freelance work. Through this “portraiting” project, the goal was to foster a greater understanding of the experiences and stories behind the faces of Ladypool Road.

These realities are often overlooked, existing only within personal family memories. By capturing them, we ensure their contribution to Birmingham’s history is preserved.

The Archive Recovery: I nearly lost this entire collection. Back in 2011, I didn’t have a robust backup system, and when the original project website went down, these images almost vanished. I’ve recovered them to show you our journey from the very beginning.

I discussed the history of these photos and the lessons learned in Season 12 of my podcast.
